Pathanamthitta (Kerala), Jun 29 (PTI) The police are questioning two persons after a 36-year-old man was found dead in a pit at Chittar here, officials said on Monday.

Sandeep, a native of Kodumudi in Karikayam near Chittar, was found unconscious in a pit near a neighbouring house at around 9 pm on Sunday.

He was rushed to the Pathanamthitta General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said.

The Chittar police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation.

During the probe, Sandeep’s family alleged that he was assaulted by relatives of a woman with whom he was in a relationship.

According to police, the woman is married and Sandeep wanted to bring her to his home. The woman had recently attempted suicide and was admitted to a hospital.

Police said the family claimed that Sandeep left his house at around 7 pm on Sunday to meet the woman before he was found dead.

The family alleged that he was attacked by the woman’s relatives, police said.

A police official at the Chittar police station said two relatives of the woman are being questioned as part of the investigation.

Further action will be taken only after the exact cause of death is ascertained through the postmortem examination, officials said.

The body has been kept at the government hospital for the postmortem, police added. PTI TBA TBA ROH
