Kolkata, Apr 16 (PTI) Two police inspectors in West Bengal have been transferred and will not be assigned any duties related to the upcoming assembly polls, according to an official order issued on Thursday.
Amit Kumar Mitra, who was serving as inspector-in-charge of Baguiati police station under Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, was transferred to the Mounted Police Battalion in Howrah Rural, it said.
Surendra Kumar Singh, inspector-in-charge of Narendrapur police station in the Baruipur Police District, was shifted to Howrah Government Railway Police, it added.
The order issued by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) said the transfers were carried out in compliance with the directions of the Election Commission.
Both officers were asked to report to their new postings by noon on April 17 and submit compliance reports immediately thereafter.
“The officers may be deployed for VIP/VVIP police bandobast and will not be assigned any work related to the conduct of elections,” the order said.
It also said the district police chiefs concerned would obtain written undertakings from the transferred officers that they would not directly or indirectly interfere with the ongoing election process. PTI SCH SOM
