Jamshedpur, Jul 15 (PTI) Jharkhand Police’s SIT probing the murder of Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh has arrested two more accused, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 16, a senior officer said on Wednesday.

Raghvendra Kumar, alias Ravindra alias Ghere (40), who had surrendered at Bistupur police station on Monday, was formally arrested along with Ganesh Machua, SP (City) Lalit Meena told a press conference.

The SIT had earlier arrested 14 accused named in the FIR, including the prime accused, Vishwanath Lohra alias Bodra, and Double Down Bar owner and BJP Jharkhand Trade Cell convenor Niraj Singh. All of them have been remanded to judicial custody.

Meena said the police also recovered the scooter allegedly used by the accused to flee after committing the crime.

Machua, who has a criminal record and has been jailed twice under the Excise Act, was arrested for allegedly providing logistical support to the accused and helping them evade arrest, the officer said.

Meanwhile, the SIT has taken several accused, including Bodra and Niraj Singh, on remand for further interrogation in connection with the case, he added.

Himanshu Singh (28) and his friend Pratiyush Singh were allegedly dragged out of a police patrol vehicle and attacked with cleavers and axes by a group of assailants outside the Double Down Bar in Bistupur on the night of June 27 following a brawl inside the establishment.

While Himanshu succumbed to injuries during treatment at Tata Main Hospital here two days later, Pratiyush is still struggling for life. PTI BS MNB
