Kannur (Keralam), Sep 10 (PTI) Police have registered a case after two mobile phones were found buried inside the premises of Kannur Central Jail here, officials said on Thursday.
The case was registered at Kannur Town Police Station on Wednesday based on a complaint lodged by the Central Jail Superintendent, officials said.
According to police, Prison Department officials noticed loose soil behind Block 6 of the jail during a routine security inspection.
Suspecting something unusual, the officials dug up the spot and found a plastic bottle buried in the soil.
When they retrieved the bottle, they found two mobile phones concealed inside it, police said.
Neither phone had a SIM card, police said. The prison officials searched the cells but could not find any SIM cards.
Police are planning to interrogate prisoners suspected of possessing or concealing the phones, officials said.
Mobile phones and narcotic substances have been regularly recovered from Kannur Central Jail in recent times.
