Hathras (UP), May 27 (PTI) Two labourers were killed and another was injured after the boundary wall of a primary school collapsed while a drain was being constructed next to it in a village of this district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The incident took place at around 6.30 pm in Niti Niwas village under Sadabad police station area, they said.
According to the police, the construction work for a drainage system was underway near the primary school under a gram panchayat project.
Three workers — mason Dalchand (45), Sonpal (55) and Mohit (25), all residents of Niti Niwas village – were trapped under the debris after the wall collapsed, the police said.
Locals rushed to the spot and pulled them out from the rubble. Dalchand died on the spot, while Mohit sustained serious injuries and was referred to Agra for treatment, where he later succumbed, the police said.
Sonpal is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bisawar.
Circle Officer (Sadabad) J N Asthana said Dalchand died on the spot, while Mohit died during treatment in Agra after being referred in a critical condition.
He said the body of Dalchand has been sent for postmortem examination, while arrangements are being made to receive Mohit’s body.
