Malappuram (Keralam), Sep 6 (PTI) Two persons were killed and three others injured after a tipper lorry collided with a car on National Highway-66 in this district early Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased were residents of Koomanna here.
The three injured persons, who were travelling in the car with them, were taken to the casualty ward of Kozhikode Medical College.
The condition of two of the injured is critical, police said.
All five were friends.
According to police, the accident occurred around 3.30 am on the Kozhikode-Thrissur NH-66 stretch at Idimuzhikkal.
A stone-carrying tipper lorry entered the highway and, after proceeding a short distance, took a U-turn to enter the service road, when it collided with the car approaching from the opposite direction, police said.
Residents cut open the car to pull out the passengers trapped inside.
Though all five passengers were rushed to the hospital, two were declared brought dead, police said.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the Kozhikode Medical College morgue.
Thenhipalam police reached the spot, removed the damaged vehicles from the road and restored traffic movement.
