Thane, Aug 25 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested two suspected middlemen, including a contractual employee of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company, for allegedly accepting a Rs 1.25 lakh bribe from a local developer, officials said.
The accused are identified as Jayanta Shivkar (51), a rickshaw driver on contract with the MSEDCL, and Darshan Salvi, an electrical contractor.
Officials suspect that the duo acted as middlemen.
“A developer managing an ongoing construction project in the Kopri area of Thane had approached the MSEDCL to secure temporary electrical meter connections for the premises. The duo initially demanded Rs 1,30,000 for the installation. Following negotiations, the suspects agreed to reduce the demand to Rs 1,25,000,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) Anil Jaykar.
