Garwah (Jharkhand), May 27 (PTI) Two girls out to collect firewood drowned in a pond in Jharkhand’s Garwah district, with police suspecting the incident occurred as they were taking a bath to beat the heat.
Officer-in-Charge of Bansidhar Nagar police station Upendra Kumar said Priyanshu Kumari (8) and Reshma Kumari (10) had left home to collect firewood on Tuesday morning and did not return until late last night.
On Wednesday morning, residents of Kumba village spotted two bodies floating in the pond and informed the police after retrieving them.
Preliminary investigation led police to believe that the girls had stepped into the pond for a bath due to scorching heat, the officer said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation was underway, police said. PTI COR BS NSD
