Pathanamthitta/Kottayam (Keralam), Sep 6 (PTI) Two cars caught fire while they were being driven in separate incidents here on Sunday, with all the occupants escaping unhurt, officials said.
The first incident occurred at Thottappuzhassery near Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district.
According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, a Kangaazha native and his family were travelling in the car when they noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet at Thottappuzhassery.
The driver immediately stopped the car, and the family, including a child, got out and informed the Thiruvalla fire station.
The fire soon engulfed the vehicle.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Thiruvalla reached the spot and doused the flames, officials said.
Traffic on the Thiruvalla-Kumbazha state highway was disrupted for around half an hour and resumed after the car was removed from the road, they said.
In the second incident, a car caught fire near Nirmalapuram at Chotty in Mundakkayam, Kottayam, at around 2 pm.
The driver noticed smoke, stopped the vehicle by the roadside, and the passengers got out. The fire subsequently engulfed the car.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Mundakkayam reached the spot and doused the flames, officials said.
The car was completely gutted in the fire, while all the occupants escaped unhurt.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
