Lucknow, Sep 26 (PTI) A case has been registered against two people at the Aminabad police station following the busting of a racket involving the alleged sale of spurious ‘Lipaglyn’ tablets in Lucknow, an official statement said on Saturday.
The case was registered following an investigation by the Drug Department into the sale, purchase and alleged fraudulent billing of spurious ‘Lipaglyn’ tablets of batch number IB00327A, the statement said.
The accused have been identified as Sarvesh Singh alias Munna Bhai and Durgesh Kumar, operator of Rajasthan-based firm M/s Curehealth Medicos, it said.
Lipaglyn tablets are used to treat Type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in patients with diabetic dyslipidemia.
The matter came to light during a joint investigation by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (North Zone, Ghaziabad) and drug control officials from Rajasthan, according to the statement.
The investigation found that 9,610 strips of counterfeit Lipaglyn tablets had been sold by M/s Curehealth Medicos to two firms in Gujarat. Records showed that the firm had purchased 11,360 strips of the medicines from Lucknow-based M/s Balaji Pharmaceuticals, it said.
No stock of the medicines was found at the licensed premises of M/s Curehealth Medicos, which had been rented out for another business, the statement said.
The drug licence of M/s Balaji Pharmaceuticals had already been cancelled and its GST registration had also been cancelled, it said.
During questioning, the former operator of M/s Balaji Pharmaceuticals denied selling the medicines. Durgesh Kumar, the operator of M/s Curehealth Medicos, however, said during a video call that the medicines had been supplied to him through “Munna Bhai”, according to the statement.
The investigation subsequently found links between the mobile numbers used in the case and Sarvesh Singh and other individuals, it said.
The statement also said an FIR had been registered in Thane, Maharashtra, against Sarvesh, also referred to as Munna Singh, and others in connection with the same batch of Lipaglyn.
According to the Drug Department, forged documents and bills were prepared using the name of a cancelled licence and counterfeit medicines were illegally bought and sold.
