Ahmedabad, Sep 10 (PTI) Two persons were arrested for waving black flags and indulging in sloganeering when Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s convoy left a venue after a programme here on Thursday, a police official said.
Two youths, one claiming to be from NSUI and another a social worker, waved black flags when Kumar was leaving the venue of a Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) event, following which they were placed under arrest, the Gujarat University police station official said.
The two will be produced in a court on Friday, he added.
The CEC began his two-day visit to Gujarat on Thursday. He visited Sabarmati Ashram, historic Adalaj stepwell, and the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) where he interacted with the citizens on the topic of ‘Election Management in India – the World’s Largest Democracy’.
On the second day of the visit on Friday, the CEC will interact with over 500 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from across the state at the Atal Kalam Hall, Gujarat University.
Thereafter, he will interact with over 1000 members of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at the AUDA Auditorium in Ahmedabad.
An informative session on ECINET, described by the Election Commission as an operational ‘All Solutions Platform’ for elections, will also be held during the programme.
The interactions with BLOs and ELC members have been organised by the Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer’s team as part of the ‘Transparency from Roll to Poll’ initiative, the press note said. PTI KA PD BNM
