Chennai, Apr 16 (PTI) Reaching out to a crucial vote bank — government employees — ahead of the Assembly elections, TVK chief Vijay on Thursday assured the restructuring of the OPS and the regularisation of contract workers in his party’s maiden manifesto.

Addressing the long-standing demands of state government employee unions, the actor-turned-politician promised a review and restructuring of the full Old Pension Scheme.

The manifesto also guaranteed a retirement gratuity of Rs 15 lakh after 20 years of service.

In a major relief for temporary staff, TVK pledged to regularise all contract workers, including nurses, temporary teachers, and clerks, who have five or more years of continuous experience. Contract teachers were specifically assured equal pay and automatic permanent employment after five years of service.

Targeting frontline workers, the party promised to hike the monthly salary of Anganwadi workers to Rs 18,000 and Community Health Assistants to Rs 10,000.

To address administrative backlogs and employment concerns, the manifesto committed to maintaining a “zero vacancy” policy in government departments by creating and strictly implementing a stable recruitment timetable for all state exams.

The TVK’s manifesto was officially unveiled as a book at a closed-door event here. Vijay presented the first copy to a farmer.
