Salem (Tamil Nadu), Jun 6 (PTI) AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday claimed that the TVK government may fall at any time if the alliance parties withdraw support and alleged that Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay won polls due to his “cinema glamour,” and not by serving the people.

Addressing a public meeting here, Palaniswami, referring to four AIADMK MLAs days ago quitting the party after resigning as legislators, alleged it was “horse-trading” and that they were “sold out.” Palaniswami, a former chief minister, said that the party worked so hard for the victory of these four MLAs. Forgetting such hard work, they have gone to the TVK. It was betrayal of the party and the voters as well. “History will not forgive you,” he said.

Listing several welfare schemes of the AIADMK, he alleged Vijay won polls due to his cinema glamour and not by serving the people.

Further, he said: “TVK is in power today due to the support extended by several parties. A chair has four legs. Two of those legs represent the TVK government, while the remaining two are borrowed legs (Congress, VCK, Left parties and IUML, who fought the Assembly polls as allies of the DMK). When the borrowed legs move away, the chair would topple over at any moment.” On Vijay’s claim that “AIADMK party has dried away”, he said, “Our party has not dried,” and instead, it always works for the people and addresses the issues faced by them.

From 2011 to 2021, the then AIADMK government launched several welfare measures for the people, which has to be “understood” by the current Tamil Nadu chief minister.

Palaniswami said when DMK chief M K Stalin was the chief minister, he ridiculed him by listing “10 consecutive electoral defeats.” However, in the 2026 Assembly polls, the AIADMK chief said he won with a huge margin of 98,110 votes in Edappadi constituency, the highest margin in Tamil Nadu. At the same time, Stalin was defeated in the Kolathur segment in Chennai.

Quoting AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran, Palaniswami said “humility,” must be practiced. PTI SNR/VGN SNR VGN KH
