Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has given US President Donald Trump a reason to cheer: the state has proposed to name a road alongside the United States Consulate General in Hyderabad’s financial district after Trump. It will be called ‘Donald Trump Avenue’.

Currently, the high-profile road in front of the heavily fortified consulate in Nanakramguda is referred to as US Consulate Road.

Telangana government officials termed it an “exciting proposal”, saying it “will be a first that a road will be named after the 45th and 47th US President”.

In a statement Sunday, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said the state would write to the Ministry of External Affairs and the US embassy, informing them about the plan.

The announcement was made a day ahead of Telangana Rising Global Summit, a two-day event being hosted in Hyderabad as the Congress CM completes two years in office.

The event is set to be attended by delegates from over 44 countries and is meant to project the state as a top investment destination globally. It will also unveil the Telangana Rising 2047 document that envisions Telangana as a $1-trillion economy by 2034 and a $3-trillion SGDP by 2047.

According to officials, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) director Eric Swider will attend the summit and address a session. TMTG runs Truth Social, the social media platform Trump uses primarily to communicate publicly.

World Economic Forum CEO Jeremy Jurgens, Nobel laureates Kailash Satyarthi and Abhijit Banerjee, and Biocon executive chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw are among others who are expected to talk on various topics at the summit.

Notably, Trump’s daughter Ivanka, serving as his adviser in 2017, was in Hyderabad that November and attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit hosted in the capital during the K. Chandrashekar Rao regime.

The CMO statement said the Telangana government has decided to name an upcoming greenfield radial road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala with the proposed Radial Ring Road after Padma Bhushan awardee Ratan Tata, with the interchange at Raviryala already named ‘Tata Interchange’.

Additionally, the administration has decided to name the road along Google’s upcoming campus, “set to be Google’s largest campus outside the US”, in Hyderabad’s financial district, as ‘Google Street’.

Officials said the state was “recognising the global impact and contribution of Google Maps and the corporation at large”.

“Earlier this year, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy while addressing the annual US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) conclave in New Delhi had proposed naming important roads in Hyderabad after leading global corporations,” said the CMO statement.

“These proposals are part of the Telangana government’s initiative to position the state as a symbol of innovation-driven India. Besides, Microsoft and Wipro are likely to get recognition on the city’s topography with a Wipro Junction and a Microsoft Road, in line with the Chief Minister’s vision.”

The state government is also considering dedicating some more roads in honour and recognition of distinguished individuals and corporations.
