Agartala, Apr 17 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday congratulated the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) on its landslide victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls, with the Pradyot Debbarma-led party securing 24 of the 28 seats.

The BJP bagged the rest of the four seats, while the CPI(M) and Congress failed to open their account for the second time in a row.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the karyakartas of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the ADC elections for their courage, hard work, and dedication,” Saha wrote on Facebook.

“Congratulations to all the winners, and warm wishes to the Tipra Motha Party on their success,” he said.

The BJP and the TMP are allies and run the state government together, but the two parties separately fought the elections to the council, which administers around 70 per cent of Tripura’s geographical area, and is home to nearly 15 lakh people.

“While we accept the people’s mandate with humility, we see this as an opportunity to learn and come back stronger.

“Thanks to the party karyakartas (leaders) for their tireless efforts; taking the message of the lotus to every household is a proud achievement. Our commitment to development, unity, and the people remains unwavering. We will continue to move forward with greater strength and determination,” Saha said.

On the TMP’s resounding victory, Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chadhury said he had anticipated that the wave is flowing in favour of the regional party, but did not imagine it could be of such magnitude.

“Both Chief Minister Manik Saha and TMP founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma made speeches with communal overtones during the electioneering,” he alleged.

Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed that factionalism within the BJP was one of the reasons behind the TMP’s landslide victory. PTI PS RBT
