TRAI proposes new category for FM Radio auction

TRAI has proposed that for category 'D' cities, except for Effective Radiated Power (ERP), all the technical parameters will be applicable for category 'E' cities.

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper on the reserve price for the auction of FM radio channels in 18 cities and towns in three states including Jammu & Kashmir, a PIB press release stated.

As per the information, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) had sought the recommendations of Trai regarding the reserve price for the auction of FM radio channels in these cities. In the consultation paper, Trai has proposed a new category ‘E’ for the cities in which the reserve price for FM radio auction will be applicable.

TRAI has proposed that for category ‘D’ cities, except for Effective Radiated Power (ERP), all the technical parameters will be applicable for category ‘E’ cities. The proposed ERP for category ‘E’ is 750 Watt to 1 Kilo Watt.

It has requested stakeholders to comment on the reserve price of FM radio channels in Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Rourkela (Odisha) and Rudrapur (Uttarakhand). The stakeholders can submit their comments on the consultation paper by email. Written comments on the consultation paper are due by August 29.
