Chennai, May 4 (PTI) TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai on Monday trailed behind Vijay-led TVK candidate Thennarasu K in Sriperumbudur (SC) assembly constituency, who established a clear lead since the votes were taken up for counting on Monday morning.
At the end of the ninth round of counting, Thennarasu secured 38,394 votes and thus established a clear lead of 14,086 votes to his nearest rival Selvaperunthagai.
Like their party chief, the Congress candidates were also way behind the TVK in other constituencies.
In Killiyoor, Congress floor leader in the Assembly S Rajesh Kumar is behind TVK’s Sabin S by a slender margin of 1,795 votes. Sabin polled 27,623 at the end of the eighth round.
The Congress is contesting 28 seats in alliance with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.
Some of the prominent Congress candidates, including A S Chandrasekaran, Jamal Mohamed Younoos, R M Karumanickam, Tharahai Cuthbert, and Praveen T T are also trailing in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvadanai, Colachel, and Vilavancode Assembly constituencies, respectively.
Congress ally, the CPI candidates: K Marimuthu and P Mahalingam have established a clear lead of 40,566 votes and 15,036 votes respectively in Thiruthuraipoondi and Sriviliputhur constituencies. PTI JSP JSP KH
