Chennai, Oct 31 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs 109.75 crore for 2026-27 financial year to provide 5 goats or sheep at 100 percent subsidy to 30,000 eligible women beneficiaries in the state.

The scheme named after the ruling TVK – Vetri Magalir Goat Rearing Scheme – aims to provide self-sustaining employment for women particularly destitute widows, destitute women, transgenders and differently-abled persons living in rural areas.

According to a release here on Saturday, the state government has accorded administrative and financial sanction for the goat rearing scheme that was announced by Finance Minister N Marie Wilson in the Budget for 2026-27 to provide employment for women in rural areas as part of an effort to rev up the rural economy.

“Through this scheme the economic status of the target group will improve and the rural economy will also flourish,” it said. PTI JSP JSP ROH
