Chennai, Sep, 10 (PTI) BJP Tamil Nadu unit chief Nainar Nagendran on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the ruling TVK , alleging that widespread “horse-trading” had led to unnecessary by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies in the state.
Addressing a press conference, Nagendran questioned the timing and rationale behind the elections.
He alleged that candidates who won election just months ago as part of another alliance defected to a new party, only to resign and immediately run again as candidates for the same seats.
“Is this election even necessary? Voters in Madurantakam and Dharapuram must question why taxpayers’ money is being wasted on by-elections driven entirely by political horse-trading,” Nagendran said He announced that the BJP, as part of the NDA, will deploy senior leaders including all India secretary M Venkatesan and state secretary Nandakumar to actively campaign and ensure victory for AIADMK candidates in both seats.
TVK has nominated K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Satyabama from Madurantakam and Dharapuram, the same constituencies they won as AIADMK candidates in the April 23 Assembly polls. They later resigned as MLAs and joined the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK.
