Kolkata, Sep 11 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday accused the previous TMC government of allowing “infiltrators” to enter India and change the state’s demography, asserting that the new BJP government was taking steps to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
Addressing a ‘Ram Katha’ programme at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here, Adhikari said the present government had handed over 1,024.75 acres of border land for barbed-wire fencing to check the entry of illegal Bangladeshis who, he alleged, posed a threat to internal security.
“Around 90 per cent of the land as required by border guards has been arranged as this government gives priority to the safety of the nation unlike abetting anti-national forces,” he said.
“There was some ‘kachra’ (clutter) around, but a ‘rashtravadi’ government has taken over in the state for the nation’s safety and security,” he asserted.
Adhikari accused the TMC of practising “tustikaran” (appeasement) politics and said, “We are bringing the Uniform Civil Code and stopped imam and muazzin bhata (allowance).” “We are bringing law to stop religious conversion,” he said, adding that the government had enforced the Cattle Slaughter Control Act of 1950 to protect cows.
Accusing the Left of subjecting the state to 34 years of misrule and alleging that “anti-national forces” had a free run on campuses such as Jadavpur University, he said, “We will tear those into pieces who utter and write slogans on Jadavpur University walls…” Taking a swipe at TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and accusing her of being anti-Hindu, Adhikari said, “Fulfilling dreams of crores of Hindus, the Ram Temple came up in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024.” However, he alleged that “someone against Hindus” had taken out an anti-Ram temple construction rally in the city on that day. “She was defeated by the people of Bhabanipur,” he said, referring to Banerjee, whom he defeated in the 2026 Assembly polls.
Describing West Bengal as the spiritual land of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna, he said, “The state and Kolkata are influenced by the same Sanatani culture.” “Remove fear and chant the name of Ram,” he said, calling for strengthening “our Sanatan parampara”.
Adhikari alleged that Bangladeshi “infiltrators” had changed the demography of the state.
He said in the four months since his government came to power, the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra had been celebrated on a large scale and announced that a five-lakh-voice Gita recital and a Hindu congregation would be held at Brigade Parade Ground by early next year.
“Reciting the Gita and Hanuman Chalisa will teach ‘sanskar’ and bring ‘jagaran’ to the young generation’s mind as Bengal is the land of Sri Chaitanya and Maa Sarada,” he said.
“In October, we will celebrate Durga Puja in a big way. Unlike the previous time, there will be no inauguration of any idol before Devi Paksha. On the day of Mahashtami, liquor shops will be closed, while Mahalaya will be observed in a grand way,” he said. PTI SUS MNB
