Chandigarh, Aug 13 (PTI) A Tiranga Yatra event in Palwal that was held with a gigantic tricolour measuring 5,000 metres long and 10 feet wide drew a massive crowd on Thursday.
The yatra, led by Haryana Sports and Youth Empowerment Minister Gaurav Gautam, began from the Palwal Police Lines.
People lined both sides of the roads holding the tricolour amid chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Vande Mataram’, while patriotic songs were being played. The yatra received a grand welcome at nearly 20 locations. At several places, the tricolour was honoured with flower showers, while people welcomed the participants amid drum beats and patriotic songs.
The participation of people from all sections of society was a major highlight of the event. School students, teachers, youth, women, senior citizens, traders, social organisations and various other groups participated in and welcomed the yatra with great enthusiasm.
Gautam, according to an official statement, said that the tricolour symbolises the honour, pride and glory of the nation.
He said the enthusiasm with which the people of Palwal honoured the national flag was a matter of pride for the entire district.
He said patriotism was not confined to any individual, organisation or section of society, but resided in the heart of every Indian. The tricolour inspires all citizens to move forward together with a commitment to unity, integrity and national interest, he said.
Gautam expressed his gratitude to the citizens, students, teachers, women, senior citizens, youth, social organisations and workers who participated in and welcomed the Tiranga Yatra.
As the yatra proceeded from the Police Lines through different routes, citizens were seen waiting in large numbers to welcome it. Many people arrived with their families, while children carried small tricolours and a large number of youngsters participated in the yatra carrying the national flag with pride.
