Raebareli (UP), Apr 23 (PTI) Three youths, including two brothers, drowned in the Ganga river on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, officials said.
The incident occurred at the Nisgar Ganga ghat when Harishankar slipped into deep water and began to drown. Hearing his cries, his elder brother Hariom and two of his friends attempted to rescue him but they were also pulled into the deep waters, they said.
Local residents rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion and informed divers, who retrieved all four from the river and took them to the community health centre (CHC) in Sareni.
Doctors referred three of them in a critical condition to the district hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Hariom (22), Harishankar (16) and Satyendra (26), all residents of the Ranikheda village.
The fourth youth, Himanshu (24), was later referred to the district hospital, where his condition was stated to be serious.
District Magistrate Sarneet Kaur Broka and Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar reached the district hospital after being informed of the incident and met the bereaved families. PTI COR ABN — MNK MNK
