Hathras (UP), Apr 30 (PTI) Three people, including two children, died in separate incidents after a strong dust storm lashed parts of Hathras district on Thursday evening, police said.

In Bilara village, under Sadabad police station limits, an under-construction wall collapsed during the storm, killing two children who had taken shelter beside it.

According to police, eight-year-old Lado, Jayprakash’s daughter, and 12-year-old Manish, neighbour Jitendra’s son, were standing near the wall to shield themselves from the strong winds when it suddenly gave way and fell on them.

Locals rushed to the spot and pulled the children out of the debris before taking them to a private hospital in Sadabad, where doctors declared them dead.

In a separate incident in Bardhwari village, under the Mursan police station area, a 52-year-old man, identified as Khajan Singh, died after a tree fell on him during the storm.

Police said Singh was returning home after grazing goats when he took shelter under a tree due to the sudden storm. The tree collapsed, trapping him underneath.

He was taken to a community health centre in Mursan, where he was declared dead.

Circle Officer Amit Pathak said, :The wall collapsed on the two children during the storm, leading to their deaths.” He said the families of the deceased children were initially reluctant to allow a postmortem, and officials were counselling them as it is required for providing financial assistance.

“The body of the deceased in the Mursan incident has been sent for postmortem,” the officer said. PTI COR KIS ASD ASD
