Imphal, Aug 26 (PTI) A three-day sitting of the Manipur Assembly will be held from September 2, officials said on Wednesday.
The first day will witness obituary references, presentation of the Business Advisory Committee report, introduction of government bills and other businesses, if any, they said.
The second sitting on September 3 will include questions and other businesses, if any.
With a gap of three days in between, the third and final sitting will be held on September 7, when question and answer sessions will be held and government bills will be taken up for passage, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the state Congress criticised the limited time allotted to the Assembly session, alleging it was inadequate to deliberate on serious issues confronting the state.
Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Keisham Meghachandra, in a social media post, said, “I attended the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. During the meeting, the CLP submitted a dissent note, strongly opposing the proposal to restrict the forthcoming Assembly session to only three sitting days.” “Such a limited duration is wholly inadequate to deliberate on the serious issues confronting Manipur and to ensure proper legislative scrutiny and accountability of the government,” he added.
The people of Manipur deserve a meaningful and substantive Assembly session where their concerns are discussed openly, important issues are debated thoroughly, and the government is held accountable, he said, adding that a democracy needs a functioning legislature — not a token session. PTI COR ACD
