Kushinagar, May 9 (PTI) Three children drowned after allegedly falling into a rainwater-filled pit at a brick kiln in a village here on Saturday morning, police said.

According to police, the incident took place in Dinapatti village under the Kasya police station area.

The children belonged to families of labourers from Chhattisgarh working at the brick kiln, and living on the same premises.

Around 7.30 am on Saturday, the family members were working at the kiln while the children — Abhay (3), Ananya (7), Anushka (2.5), and Sweety (8) — were playing nearby.

During this, one child accidentally fell into the pit, and the others jumped in to help, police said.

Three children drowned, while Sweety managed to escape and alerted family members, who rushed to the spot, and pulled out the three children. They were rushed to the community health centre in Kasya, where doctors declared them dead.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Kasya Station House Officer Ashutosh Singh said. PTI COR NAV MDO ARB ARB
