Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 19 (PTI) A 52-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Kilimanoor, police said on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Biju of Karette here.
According to police, the accused, a friend of the victim’s mother, frequently visited their house and had allegedly been assaulting the 15-year-old girl for the past year.
The incident came to light when the girl underwent counselling, during which she disclosed the abuse, officials said.
Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the accused.
Officials at the Kilimanoor police station said an investigation is also being conducted into the role of the victim’s mother, as they suspect she was aware of the abuse and failed to report it.
The accused will be produced before a court on Monday as part of the remand proceedings, police added. PTI TBA SSK
