New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy would be in the national capital on July 24 to brief Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on the caste census issue as well as on enhancing the quota for backward classes to 42 per cent in the state.

Mallu Ravi, Congress MP in Lok Sabha from Telangana, told PTI on Monday that Reddy would be briefing the top Congress leadership and party MPs on the caste survey conducted by the state government to help increase the quota for the backward classes.

“The chief minister would brief both the leaders of the opposition in Delhi on July 24 on increasing the quotas for the backward classes. The CM would later brief all Congress MPs on the issue,” Ravi said.

Recently, the Independent Expert Working Group (IEWG) constituted by the Telangana government to study the caste survey in the state submitted a comprehensive report on its findings to the CM.

After the findings of the survey were tabled in the Legislative Assembly, the government on March 12 this year appointed a high-level independent committee of 11 illustrious members, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Sudarshan Reddy, to conduct an independent verification, analysis and comprehensive study of the data and its findings.

According to the state government, the caste survey, held in two phases, employing over 1,03,889 enumerators and supervisors, was the first of its kind in the country. PTI SKC JP RT RT
