Panaji, Oct 11 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will join the Congress’s ongoing ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ (Save Goa campaign) in Goa on Sunday, a party leader said.

The Goa Congress, on its official Facebook page, posted a message welcoming Reddy to the coastal state, where the assembly polls are due early next year.

Reddy would reach Goa in the afternoon to participate in the yatra, which will be held in Cuncolim and Quepem assembly constituencies in the evening, state Congress president Girish Chodankar told PTI.

Both the constituencies are represented by Congress – Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Yuri Alemao and MLA Altone D’Costa.

While there is no formal confirmation about the schedule, party sources said Reddy would pay tributes at the Chieftain’s Memorial in Cuncolim. The memorial has been built to remember the first revolt against foreign powers during Portuguese rule in the state.

On Saturday, Congress leaders said party MP Rahul Gandhi was also scheduled to participate in the yatra on Sunday.

However, a senior party leader on Sunday said that Gandhi’s visit has been cancelled due to ongoing agitation demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi.

The Congress recently said its doors were open to like-minded political outfits ahead of the Goa polls. It has already announced an alliance with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), a regional outfit which won one seat in the 2022 assembly elections in the BJP-ruled coastal state.

Last month, the Goa Forward Party, another regional outfit, announced an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP under the banner “Goa First” for the assembly polls.

However, differences later emerged in the Goa First alliance after GFP president Vijai Sardesai said there should be a grand Opposition alliance and the Congress should be a part of such a grouping. PTI RPS GK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
