Hyderabad, Apr 19 (PTI) Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to State Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan, and both discussed issues related to education, official sources said.

Revanth Reddy’s visit to Lok Bhavan assumes significance in the backdrop of the state government’s nomination of former cricketer and current Minister Mohammad Azharuddin as MLC pending with the Governor.

Azharuddin was sworn in as a minister on October 31 last year, and he is supposed to be elected to the legislature within six months, by April 30.

Reddy’s visit to Lok Bhavan came a day after Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and Advocate General A Sudarshan Reddy called on Shukla and “discussed administrative and legal” matters related to the state.

Though the government is tight-lipped on the Azharuddin issue, sources said that the issue of nominations of former cricketer and professor Kodandaram also figured in the meeting.

Shukla advised that awareness should be created about controlling drug use in educational institutions and suggested initiatives to ensure students take a pledge in this regard, an official release from the CMO said.

The governor discussed with the chief minister the awareness program to be held under his leadership at LB Stadium on June 12.

Shukla recommended that, at the time of admission to schools and colleges, students should administer a pledge stating they will stay away from drugs.

The chief minister affirmed that all the governor’s suggestions would be considered and appropriate action taken, it added. PTI GDK ADB
