Chennai, Aug 4 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Tuesday inaugurated four infrastructure projects worth Rs 112.85 crore and launched four schemes worth Rs 710.50 crore under the Directorate of Municipal Administration.
The projects were inaugurated virtually, and foundation stones were laid for the new schemes, in an event held at the Secretariat.
The inaugurated works include an Rs 18-crore high-level bridge constructed across the Noyyal River along Eswaran Kovil Road in Tiruppur City Corporation.
The bridge is aimed at improving connectivity between north and south Tiruppur and preventing traffic disruptions caused by monsoon waterlogging, a press release said.
Water supply augmentation projects were inaugurated in three municipalities.
These include a Rs 22.65-crore project in Perundurai to provide 73 litres per capita per day through 10,080 household connections.
A Rs 42.69-crore project in Kotagiri will supply 100 LPCD through 3,596 connections.
The project includes six ground-level reservoirs and 40 km of road restoration works.
A Rs 29.51-crore project in Vikramasingapuram features a 4 MLD water treatment plant at Pothigaiyadi, three overhead tanks and 12,890 domestic connections to supply 135 LPCD.
For the new schemes, foundation stones were laid for projects financed by the German Development Bank.
Accordingly, a modern bus stand equipped with 60 bus bays, 81 commercial shops, solar power systems, rainwater harvesting and waste treatment facilities will be built in Dindigul Corporation for Rs 74.89 crore.
In Karur Corporation, a Rs 245.07-crore water supply project will draw 26.83 MLD from the Cauvery River, involving the installation of two infiltration wells, 126 km of distribution pipelines and upgrades to overhead reservoirs.
A Rs 165.48-crore drinking water scheme in Thiruverkadu Municipality will draw 16.34 MLD from Chembarambakkam Lake to supply 135 LPCD to 23,368 households. The project, which includes 12 overhead reservoirs, is expected to be completed in two years.
Additionally, a Rs 225.06-crore underground sewerage scheme was launched for Mangadu Municipality. The project includes 84.19 km of sewer pipelines, three pumping stations, three lift stations and 20,258 domestic connections, benefiting 68,700 residents.
