Bhopal, Jul 17 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the stellar performance of his state in the Swachh Survekshan, results of which were announced on Thursday.
In the ‘Super Swachh League’ city award category, Indore topped the list followed by Surat in Gujarat and Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai, while the ‘Swachh Shahar’ category for cities with a population of more than 10 lakh saw Ahmedabad securing first position, MP capital Bhopal coming second and Lucknow taking third spot.
Yadav, who is on a tour of Spain, in a congratulatory post on X, said, “Indore at the top of cleanliness… Indore being honoured as the country’s cleanest city in the ‘Super Swachh League Cities’ category by President Draupadi Murmu at the Swachh Survey-2024 felicitation ceremony is a matter of great pride for the people of the state.” Yadav said Bhopal, Dewas, Shahganj, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain and Budhni also received awards, which was proof that Madhya Pradesh had now become “a pioneer in the country in terms of cleanliness”.
“For this success, I extend my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the citizens of all the local bodies of the state, especially the sanitation workers, public representatives and the concerned officials,” Yadav said.
Hailing Indore achievement of topping the survey for the eighth consecutive time, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari said, “By incorporating cleanliness into sanskar, Indore has now made a tradition of getting respect! This is possible only through public awareness! Ujjain and Budhni have also set an example in the Super Swachh City League category! Congratulations to the people of both the cities from my side too!” The citizens of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Dewas, Shahganj too deserve praise for keeping these cities clean, he added.
“This achievement is the result of the collective effort and resolve of the people of the state. Hearty congratulations to all the citizens, sanitation workers and bodies!” Bhopal has set a new record in the field of cleanliness in this competition,” MP minister Vishwas Sarang said.
“By securing the second position in the category of cities with a population of more than 10 lakh in Swachhata Super League – 2024, Bhopal has ensured its place in the top 3 clean cities. As a capital, the identity of our Bhopal has now become even stronger as a clean, beautiful and smart city. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the people of Bhopal for this achievement,” Sarang further said.
Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said the feat had been achieved due to the city’s habit, discipline and collective efforts.
“I express gratitude to the city’s sanitation workers. Because of their hard work and dedication Indore is able to maintain its top position in the country’s cleanliness rankings. I urge the citizens to welcome and appreciate the sanitation workers when they visit their areas and to take ownership of maintaining cleanliness,” Bhargava said in a message.
According to the Union government, 14 crore people participated in the survey through face-to-face interactions, the Swachhata App, MyGov and social media platforms in over 4,500 cities.
Seventy-eight awards were presented this year across four categories — Super Swachh League Cities; Top three clean cities in five population categories; Special Category: Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh; and State Level Awards — Promising clean city of a state or Union Territory.
President Droupadi Murmu gave away the awards to the winners at an event in the national capital which was attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and others. PTI MAS COR BNM
