New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) Following is the chronology of events related to the Supreme Court’s judgement on the pleas challenging the validity of Election Commission’s decision to conduct Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar: A SC bench headed by CJI Surya Kant on Wednesday upholds EC’s powers to conduct SIR of voters rolls.

*June 26, 2025: EC decides to undertakes SIR of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.

*July 5: NGO ‘Association For Democratic Reforms’ files PIL in SC challenging EC’s decision to conduct SIR.

Around 18 pleas were filed by several political leaders and others on the issue.

*July 28 : The top court commences hearing.

*August 1: EC removes 65 lakh names from the Bihar draft electoral roll after SIR exercise, says out of 7.89 crore voters, 7.24 crore people are eligible to vote.

* Sep 30: EC publishes final electoral list of 7.42 crore voters, says that total number of electors comes down by nearly 47 lakh in final electoral roll.

*Oct 7: SC asks EC to provide details of 3.66 lakh voters who were part of draft voter list but were excluded from final electoral roll.

*Oct 9: SC asks the Bihar State Legal Service Authority to issue directions to its district-level bodies for assisting 3.66 lakh voters excluded from final electoral rolls in filing appeals with EC.

*Jan 29, 2026: SC reserves judgment.
