New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) Senior IPS officer Alok Sharma was on Wednesday given nine months extension as the chief of Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the prime minister and his immediate family members residing with him at his official residence.
Sharma, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed to the post on November 17, 2023.
He was due to superannuate this month after completion of 60 years of age.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in service of Sharma, Director, SPG for a period of nine months, with effect from July 1, 2026, up to March 31, 2027 in relaxation of Fundamental Rule 56 (d) and the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1958, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.
The rules bar extension in service of government servants beyond the age of retirement of 60 years, except for defence secretary, foreign secretary, home secretary, director of Intelligence Bureau, secretary of Research and Analysis Wing, and few others. PTI AKV KVK KVK
