Amaravati, May 12 (PTI) K Vijayanand, Andhra Pradesh special chief secretary to the Chief Minister, on Tuesday directed energy officials to expedite completion of the 68 transmission network and infrastructure works worth Rs 5,000 crore.

With a view to strengthening the power transmission system and future requirements, Vijayanand called for the completion of these works, which are currently at various stages.

“Take steps for the speedy completion of 68 transmission network and infrastructure-related works being implemented in various stages across the state with an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore,” said Vijayanand in an official press release.

He underscored that the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) is working with the objective of providing quality, reliable, and dependable power supply to all sections in the state, including agriculture, industries, commercial establishments, and domestic consumers.

On completing these 68 projects, an additional transformation capacity of 15,274 MVA and 1,822 circuit kilometres transmission line network will become available to the state power transmission system, the release said.

Vijayanand stated that these projects are being implemented keeping in view the rapid industrialisation, urbanisation, infrastructure expansion, and growing renewable energy usage requirements in the state.

He noted that the projects under execution are meant not only to increase the reliability of the power transmission system but also to reduce stress on the network, improving voltage levels, and playing a key role in providing a stable power supply to consumers in various regions.

According to Vijayanand, APTRANSCO is playing a key role in supporting major industrial investments, especially in developing the required EHT power supply infrastructure for the vertically integrated solar PV manufacturing unit being established at Chevuru village and Karedu villages in Nellore district.

Through this project, he said, Andhra Pradesh will gain further strength in emerging as a leading renewable energy manufacturing hub in the country while also increasing local employment opportunities and contributing to industrial development.

Elaborating on the state’s clean energy goals, he stated that the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has sanctioned Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF) for the development of 30 GWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the country.

Out of this, 3 GWh capacity has been allocated to Andhra Pradesh, he added. PTI STH ADB
