New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) A special CBI court on Friday sent three officials posted at the Pay and Accounts Office, CISF, Ranchi, who were arrested on bribery charges, to three days of the agency’s custody for “interrogation and to ascertain the involvement of other officials.” The CBI arrested Santosh Kumar Mahto (senior accounts officer), Sunil Kumar and Sujit Kumar Singh (both assistant accounts officer), posted at the Regional Pay and Accounts Office, on Thursday, officials said.
The agency had conducted searches at their premises, resulting in the seizure of materials including digital devices, documents relating to acquisition of properties, investments, jewellery and bank transactions, they said, adding that substantial cash amounts were also recovered.
The CBI had registered the case on a written complaint from a CISF head constable posted at the NTPC, Prayagraj. The constable was deputed by his unit to deposit 28 TA bills and 10 CEA bills to the Regional Pay and Accounts Office (RPAO), CISF Ranchi, for payment.
It is alleged in the complaint that Sunil Kumar and Mahto demanded undue advantage ranging from Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 for processing and payment of the said bills.
Based on a complaint, the agency conducted a trap operation and all three accused officials were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 48,400 from the complainant, a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
