New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday wrote a letter to Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, requesting him to take with “utmost seriousness” repeated bomb threats received by the legislative body over the past few weeks.

The Delhi Assembly received a threat e-mail on Tuesday, sixth since the Budget Session in March, warning of five RDX bombs.

Drawing his attention, the speaker wrote to the commissioner that the latest threat e-mail was directly addressed to him by name.

“This is a matter of grave concern and must be taken with utmost seriousness,” he said.

Last week also, the speaker wrote to the police commissioner requesting him a prompt investigation into the threats, and sought enhanced security of the assembly premises.

Gupta said that Delhi Assembly was celebrating Dr BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on Tuesday when the latest threat e-mail landed. Earlier e-mails were also received when the assembly was in session to pass the Budget.

“The motive of the sender of these threatening emails seems to derail the functioning of Assembly and its important programmes. Repeatedly receiving of threatening emails created a sense of fear among the staff as well as dignitaries visiting the Assembly and its Hon’ble Members of the House,” he noted.

He said all e-mails were forwarded to the police but till date the people behind it are untraced.

“I would request you to personally intervene and ensure that this matter is examined thoroughly with the highest priority,” Gupta urged Golcha. PTI VIT VN VN
