Amaravati, April 15 (PTI) The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd on Wednesday has directed power distribution companies (DISCOMs) to speed up solar rooftop installations across the state under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Special Chief Secretary (Energy), K Vijayanand, said the government is implementing the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model to provide rooftop solar systems to SC and ST electricity consumers.

“The government is moving towards clean energy to reduce electricity burden while promoting environmental protection and local employment through solar rooftop installations,” he said in an official press release.

He said solar rooftop systems have been installed for 20,636 SC and ST households across the state under the ongoing programme.

The initiative aims to reduce the burden of electricity charges while promoting clean energy adoption across the state.

Out of the total 20,636, over 5,000 households fall under Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL), nearly 8,550 under Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), and about 7,100 under Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), reflecting steady progress across DISCOM jurisdictions.

In addition, over 1.2 lakh households across the state have been provided solar rooftop connections under the regular scheme, expanding access to renewable energy.

Vijayanand directed the Chairmen and Managing Directors (CMDs), Directors, Chief Engineers, and Superintending Engineers to conduct daily reviews and complete installations within stipulated timelines through systematic execution.

He further said the scheme will soon be extended to eligible Backward Class (BC) beneficiaries under subsidy, widening the programme’s reach. PTI MS ROH
