Jodhpur, Jun 3 (PTI) A prominent social media influencer from Rajasthan was admitted to a hospital here on Wednesday after she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance, with her family claiming that prolonged online trolling and harassment had pushed her into emotional distress.
Anita Bishnoi, a content creator known for making videos on Rajasthan’s culture and traditions besides social-awareness issues, was rushed to the Mathuradas Mathur (MDM) Hospital after her condition deteriorated at her residence in the Banar police station area.
According to her family members, Bishnoi allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at home. She was immediately taken to the hospital.
The incident came hours after Bishnoi shared an emotional message on social media that raised concern among her followers and relatives. In her post, Bishnoi suggested that she might not be seen again, prompting anxious reactions from her online followers.
Bishnoi has built a substantial following on social media, with around 13 lakh followers on Facebook and more than 6.45 lakh on Instagram. Her content largely focuses on Rajasthan’s cultural heritage, folk traditions, social issues and public-awareness campaigns.
Her husband, Dinaram, alleged that she was facing persistent trolling and personal attacks on social media for weeks.
According to him, the criticism intensified after she posted a video expressing views on women’s attire, triggering sharp reactions from some users and fellow influencers.
Dinaram alleged that certain individuals were deliberately targeting Bishnoi through social-media platforms and messaging applications, causing her significant mental stress. The family also alleged that attempts were being made to tarnish her reputation through online campaigns and defamatory remarks.
In a video shared before the incident, Bishnoi accused several people of attacking her dignity and reputation. She further alleged that threats were issued to her and claimed to possess recordings and other evidence to substantiate her allegations.
Dinaram said he was away from home when he was informed about his wife’s social-media post by an acquaintance. He rushed home and found his wife’s condition worsening. She was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the hospital authorities, Bishnoi’s condition is stable.
Police also rushed to the hospital and have launched a probe. A case is yet to be registered. PTI COR RC
