Bengaluru, Aug 25 (PTI) Social harmony, peaceful coexistence and mutual trust are essential for strengthening national unity and building a stronger India, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot said on Tuesday.
Gehlot was speaking at a ‘Harmony Dinner’ hosted by Rajya Sabha member Laher Singh Siroya at Glass House, Lok Bhavan, here. People from different faith came together to make the event successful.
“India’s greatest strength lies in its unity in diversity. Despite differences in languages, traditions, and modes of worship, the shared identity of being Indians continues to unite the nation,” he said.
Gehlot appreciated Siroya’s initiative and said initiatives such as the Harmony Dinner promote social integration, cultural exchange, mutual trust and cooperation.
Referring to the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, Gehlot said it conveys the message that the entire world is one family.
Mutual respect, trust and cooperation would make society and the nation stronger and more resilient, he said.
Against the backdrop of contemporary global challenges, Gehlot called for strengthening social unity and the spirit of brotherhood.
The governor urged people to promote dialogue and understanding so that differences of opinion do not turn into personal conflicts.
He said Karnataka has a rich tradition of harmony and social cohesion, recalling the teachings of Jagadguru Basaveshwara, Sant Kanakadasa and Narayana Guru, who championed equality, humanity and social justice.
According to him, true progress can be achieved only when the benefits of development reach every section of society and every individual is treated with dignity.
Bengaluru was not only India’s technology capital but also a symbol of diversity and global outlook, where people from different states, languages and cultures work together and contribute to the nation’s development.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, Gehlot said the mantra embodied inclusive development as well as social harmony and national unity. PTI GMS ROH
