Kolkata, Jun 19 (PTI) Smoke was detected in a Dum Dum-bound Kolkata Metro train at Rabindra Sarobar station on Friday morning, triggering panic among passengers and briefly disrupting services on the North-South corridor, officials said The incident took place around 10.37 am when Metro staff noticed smoke emanating from a rake stationed at the platform. No injuries were reported, they said.
Passengers were immediately evacuated from the train as a precautionary measure, and Metro Railway personnel carried out an inspection of the rake.
“Smoke was noticed in a train at Rabindra Sarobar station. Passengers were asked to deboard, and the rake was examined by our technical staff. The situation was soon brought under control,” a Metro Railway official said.
“The disruption lasted for about 11 minutes. After completion of safety checks, services resumed, and normal operations were restored,” the official said.
