New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Slovakia’s highest civilian award, the BJP on Tuesday described it as “historic” and said it is a recognition of his welfare work in the country and the global trust he has earned.
Speaking to reporters here, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the bestowing of the award on the prime minister has brought honour to the country.
“With this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred a total of 33 highest civilian awards of various countries. These awards have been bestowed on him for the development work that he has done and the trust that he has earned – not just in India but across the globe,” the BJP MP said.
These awards have been conferred on the prime minister also for the work that he has done for the welfare of the country’s people, including those who are poor, he said.
President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini conferred the country’s highest national award, The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), on Prime Minister Modi on Monday during his visit to the country.
“It is a matter of pride for India. It is a matter of pride for 140 crore Indians. This award is not just for the prime minister, but for Bharat also. We congratulate the prime minister and all Indians,” Patra said.
“Such awards are bestowed in recognition of public welfare. The government under Prime Minister Modi has been functioning so well for the past 12 years with the mantra of ‘vikas (development)’, ‘vishwas (trust)’ and ‘jan kalyan (public welfare)’,” he said.
Slovakia’s highest civilian award has been conferred on Modi at a time when he has set a record by becoming the longest serving elected Prime Minister of India, Patra said, adding, “It’s a historic moment.” PTI PK DIV DIV
