Thane, Oct 21 (PTI) Murdered Shiv Sena (UBT) functionary Pradeep Purnekar’s son on Wednesday released video clips purportedly showing key accused Nikhil Yadav practicing with a firearm in the presence of Rajendra Shinde, former Thane mayor Meenakshi Shinde’s husband.

Purnekar was shot and hacked to death inside his office in Manpada area of the city on September 29.

Ram Purnekar, his son, shared video clips purportedly showing arrested accused Nikhil Yadav handling a gun in Rajendra Shinde’s presence.

Earlier, Ram Purnekar had accused Meenakshi Shinde, who belongs to the rival Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and her husband of plotting the crime. Meenakshi Shinde had denied the allegations vehemently, terming them as baseless.

A total of five accused have been arrested. Rajendra Shinde has been questioned by the police in the case.

Ram Purnekar, meanwhile, has written to the Thane Commissioner of Police and sought immediate police protection outside his residence.

Key conspirators behind the murder were still at large and posed a risk to his family, he stated in the letter. PTI COR KRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
