Agartala, Jul 19 (PTI) The West Tripura district police has constituted a 15-member Special Task Force (STF) to detect, identify and deport immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma thanked the police for the move and asked the indigenous people to report any such illegal immigrant.

The 15-member SIT is headed by a senior deputy superintendent of police, while all the officers-in-charge (OCs) of police stations were also included in it.

“For deportation of illegal Bangladesh nationals/Rohingyas, a district-level Special Task Force (STF) has been constituted for West Tripura district police to detect, identify and deport immigrants from Bangladesh/Myanmar settled or apprehended in the district,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar said in an official order.

“If a person is identified as an illegal Bangladesh national or a Rohingya after inquiry, the respective team members shall immediately ensure the capture of their biometrics (fingerprint and facial photographs) and demographic details and upload those on the foreigners’ identification portal,” it said.

“After capturing biometrics and demographic details, the illegal immigrants shall be handed over to the officers of BSF for deportation to their native land. The dy SP, DIB (District Intelligence Bureau) will ensure collection and compilation of weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis data in this regard for ready reference,” the recent order added.

Debbarma claimed that the SIT was formed as a result of persistent pressure created on the BJP-led government by TMP, a constituent of the ruling coalition, to address the illegal immigration issue.

“Thank you Tripura Police for taking up this crucial issue. If we all continue to speak up together, things will happen on the ground. The genuine people of Tripura should report such activity,” he said in a social media post. PTI PS ACD
