Lucknow, Apr 20 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party on Monday alleged that the electoral rolls have discrepancies despite the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and urged the Election Commission to launch a statewide campaign across all 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh to make the voter list error-free.

Party national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary informed that on the directions of party president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, the party’s state unit chief Shyam Lal Pal submitted a memorandum to the state’s chief electoral officer, demanding a special drive to rectify flaws in the electoral rolls.

Chaudhary noted that the memorandum pointed out that even after the 166-day-long SIR process, there were large-scale irregularities in the voter lists of Assembly constituencies. These included the presence of ‘duplicate voters’ and instances where a single voter’s name was entered multiple times, in some cases up to four times, raising questions over the commission’s claims of ensuring accuracy and error-free rolls.

He stated that the party has demanded that a special campaign be conducted across all 403 assembly constituencies of the state to remove discrepancies in the voter list, so that the assembly elections scheduled next year in Uttar Pradesh can be conducted in a free and fair manner.

Chaudhary also provided details of alleged irregularities in the voter lists in districts such as Raebareli, Barabanki, Basti, Farrukhabad and Jhansi. PTI SLM KIS MPL MPL
