Mumbai, Sep 25 (PTI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Friday demanded that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise be scrapped, alleging that the BJP has used it as a weapon since 2025.
In a post on X, Thackeray said the SIR process should be started anew.
“It has become evident how the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leveraged individuals like Gyanesh Kumar to secure an endless grip on power. To this end, they have adopted a new weapon since 2025: the SIR (Special Intensive Revision).
“Observing the irregularities within the SIR and noting that even Election Commissioners are speaking out about them, only one conclusion remains: the entire SIR process must be scrapped,” he said.
All opposition parties in the country need to unite for this cause, the MNS chief said. They must launch a massive agitation to ensure that future elections are conducted using ballot papers rather than electronic voting machines.
He demanded a probe into alleged irregularities in the SIR process. Only then will the truth behind this “long-standing hold on power” be revealed, he added.
The Opposition has been demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged differences among the poll panel’s top officers on key electoral decisions.
The demand stems from an Indian Express report on objections reportedly raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over electoral-roll-related decisions.
