Gangtok, Oct 17 (PTI) Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court A Muhamed Mustaque on Saturday inspected the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus at Ravangla in Namchi district to assess its suitability for establishing a permanent campus of Sikkim National Law University (SNLU).

The inspection focused on the available infrastructure, accommodation facilities and adjoining land that could be considered for the proposed university’s academic, administrative and residential requirements, according to an official press statement.

During the visit, Justice Mustaque enquired about the utilisation of classrooms, faculty quarters, the conference hall and library, besides seeking details of land available for future expansion, the statement said.

The chief justice also outlined the infrastructure and facilities required for the proposed university, emphasising the need to adequately cater to the academic and residential needs of students and faculty members.

Revenue Officer Rinzing Wangyal Bhutia briefed the visiting delegation on the campus layout, which spans approximately 9.23 acres, and the existing infrastructure. He also highlighted adjoining land parcels that could potentially accommodate additional facilities for SNLU, the statement said.

NIT Sikkim Dean of Students’ Welfare Ranjan Basak apprised the delegation of the institute’s functioning, student enrolment across departments, accommodation facilities, water supply and waste management systems.

Basak also briefed the delegation on the ongoing construction of NIT Sikkim’s permanent campus at Khamdong near Singtam and the institute’s phased relocation to the new premises.

Justice Mustaque subsequently toured various infrastructure blocks and inspected multipurpose halls, water tanks, the playground and accommodation facilities for students and faculty members.

The delegation included High Court Registrar General Karma Wangchuk Bhutia, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department Secretary Suraj Chettri, Buildings and Housing Department Principal Chief Engineer Yadunandan Gautam, and SNLU Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) Rajendra Dhar Dubey, along with other officials and local panchayat representatives.

The chief justice later visited Tathagata Tsal and toured the premises, the statement added. PTI COR RG

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
