Ambala, Aug 9 (PTI) Several members of the Sikh community held a ‘dharna’ outside the Panjokhra police station here on Sunday following detention of two Sikh youths in connection with the assault on International Anti-Khailistani Terrorist Front (IAKTF) chief Gursimran Singh Mand.
Mand was assaulted by a mob outside Gurudwara Shri Panjokhra Sahib in Ambala on Friday evening.
The mob smashed the windshield and windows of his car, with Mand sustaining minor injuries. He was later rescued by his security guards and police.
Two Sikh youths were detained for questioning in connection with the incident.
A large crowd gathered in front of the Panjokhra police station on Sunday, demanding immediate release of the detainees.
Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni and office-bearers of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Kisan Union were also present.
Chaduni demanded immediate release of the two detained youths, and warned of a major agitation if the demand was not met.
Discussions are underway between police and representatives of the Sikh community in this regard.
