New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted the registration of Shri Bageshwar Jan Seva Samiti, under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), making the religious organisation eligible to receive foreign funds.

The samiti, led by 29-year-old preacher Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, is described as a religious (Hindu), Cultural, Economic, Educational, and Social organisation.

The Bageshwar Dham website lists the samiti as the account holder, through which people can contribute to support the services provided by the organisation.

The organisation is one of the 38 organisations, including Ramakrishna Math Bolpur, Sri Ramakrishna Sharada Ashrama in Karnataka, Ramkrishna Math in Purnea, Shikhar Dhawan Foundation in Janakpuri, New Delhi, NIIT Foundation, and HCL Foundation, among others, that were cleared by the Home Ministry for receiving foreign funds this year.

Registration under the FCRA is mandatory for any person to receive a foreign contribution. The person must have a definite cultural, economic, educational, religious or social programme and must not be involved in activities prohibited under the FCRA.

The registration under the FCRA is valid for five years.

At present, approximately 16,000 associations are registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) and receive around Rs 22,000 crore annually, according to the statement of objects and reasons of a recent bill to amend the Act. PTI ABS NB
