Jaipur, Jun 24 (PTI) A 38-year-old share market trader was beaten to death allegedly by his friends over an argument that broke out in a hotel room here, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place at a hotel in the Narayan Vihar area, where the victim, Guru Prasad Chaudhary, was staying with five to six friends for the past two days, they said.
According to police, Chaudhary’s body was found lying on a bed in the hotel room around midnight on Tuesday. The room door was found unlocked when hotel staff checked, following which the police were informed.
Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Kumar said the deceased, a resident of Nityanand Nagar on Gandhi Path, was involved in share market trading. His family was informed after the body was recovered.
“A forensic team collected evidence from the spot, and the body was sent for post-mortem…prima facie, it appears to be a case of murder,” Kumar said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Chaudhary had checked into the hotel with a group of friends and was partying with them. Police suspect that an argument broke out among them when they were having liquor, following which the accused allegedly assaulted him.
“The victim sustained multiple injury marks, and signs of clotting were visible on the body. It appears he was assaulted and left unconscious by his friends, who fled the spot,” he said.
Police said that the accused had allegedly recorded a Facebook Live video while fleeing the scene, which was later deleted.
The family of the deceased told police that he had left home on Monday afternoon to meet friends and had not returned since. His phone was found switched off thereafter.
Police have launched a search for the accused, and further investigation is underway. PTI AG SMV AMJ AMJ
