New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed grief over the accident near the Sheetla Mata temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, saying every possible medical facility was being provided to the injured.

In a post on X, Shah said, “The incident near the Sheetla Mata Temple in Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) is extremely tragic. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones in this accident.”

“Every possible medical facility is being provided to the injured. I pray for their speedy recovery,” he added.

A speeding truck bearing a Punjab registration number ran over devotees outside the temple around 1.30 am before crashing into its entrance gate, causing a wall to collapse. The accident left 14 people dead and 28 injured, including two police personnel.

An inquiry has been ordered to fix responsibility, while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered the removal of the Gwalior City Superintendent of Police and the suspension of eight other personnel. PTI MHS AMJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
